THE GASWORKS

PLANT DEPRECIATION FUND. A GOOD START. For some few years past the audit inspectors have stressed the need for the Borough providing for a plant depreciation fund in connection with the gasworks, but up to the present it has not been possible owing to repairs and replacements absorbing the surplus revenue. This year, however, the account is in such a position that the Mayor (Mr Hunt), speaking at the Council meeting on Friday night, said he felt justified in recommending that a. start be made with the fund, and he suggested that the sum of £3OO he placed on deposit with the Public Trust Office. Cr. Yates asked if it was proposed to make the same deposit each year.

The Mayor said that the amount would depend entirely on the position of the account. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Yates, it was decided tn invest £3OO with the Public Trust Office.
