He was everywhere repulsed with great losses. We repelled attacks on the Sereth and Suchava valleys. After the stubborn battles southwest of Oena the Roumanians were forced to retire five versts. The enemy developed his offensive west of the Focsani-Mereshestchi railway, and compelled us to retire across the Suchtiza. We repelled attacks eastward of the railway. The battle is progressing. Our counter-attacks yestereve enabled us to recross in places on the south bank of the Suchitza. A Roumanian communique, dated the 10th instant, reports:—The RussoRoumanians are maintaining their positions in various areas and inflicting heavy losses despite repeated and prolonged powerful attacks, accompanied by asphyxiating gas. -'The Russians captured prisoners and machine guns, the enemy fleeing in disorder.
