DEADLY WORK.

STRUGGLE FOR THE WESTHOEK RIDGE. ENEMY OUT TO KILL. United Service. LONDON, August 13. Mr Beach Thomas says that Friday’s fighting for the ridge east of Westhoek was some of the deadliest of the year. The enemy counter-attacked seven times on a mile frontage. The German losses were ns great as they have ever been since the days of their murderous massed attacks. Mr P. Gibbs says:—“The enemy apparently wishes to make this the decisive battle of the war. I cannot see how he hopes to decide in his own favor after the loss of Pilkem and Westhoek ridge, but he is out to kill regardless of his own losses. ’ ’
