NAPIER PARK RACES. The usual “Park weather” prevailed for the opening of the Napier Park Racing Club’s meeting yesterday, hut the attendance was good. The totalisator investments showed a falling off as compared with the corresponding day of the last winter meeting—£l4,474 as against £15,189. There were no big dividends, hut Merrie Lad, who finished second in the Steeplechase, would have paid a good price if he had Avon. Bracbum went out a hot favorite for that event and justified the confidence placed in him, although he blundered badly at one fence. Results:— Moteo Hack Hurdles. —Czaronus 1, Golden March 2. Petane Hack Steeplechase.—Bransfield 1, Nita 2. Stewards’ Stakes.—Goldenlyte 1, Kooya 2. Napier Steeplechase.—Braeburn 1, Merrie Lad 2, Captain Mucky 3. Ladies’ Necklace.—Atuatoro 1, Multum 2. Ahuriri Hurdles.—Gladful 1, Styrax 2. Settlers’ Hack. —Otara 1, Cheloma SECOND DAY. (Per Press Association). GREENMEADOVVS, This day. The Aveather is dull for the second day’s races, hut the attendance is very large. The course is heavy. Results: Meanee Hack.—Golden Glade 1, Admiral Beatty 2, Perrier 3. Scratched—No Idea. Won by a head. Time, 1.24. Waioliiki Hack Hurdles. —Golden March 1, Crawford 2, Czaronus 3. Scratched —Bon Reve, Tuatahi, Bodenham. Won by lavo lengths. Time, 3.2 2-5. Winter Oats.—Whakahoki 1, Sea Lord 2, Goldenlyte 3. All started. Won by half a length. Time, 1.38 4-5. Steeplechase.—Bravest 1, Queen’s Post 2, Nita 3. All started. The Chef, Captain McKay, and Precious Metal fell. The first and second horses led most of the distance. A good finish. Time, 5.31 1-5. Hunt Club Steeples.—Waiparapara 1, Korirangi 2, Korangi 3. Scratched Turehau. Only the placed horses finished. Pilot Fish fell. Won by 20 lengths. Time, 5.51. "hockey.^ The following Avill represent the Waipawa Ladies’ Club in the hockey match against the High School girls on Wednesday next:—Misses Angus, Anstis, Georgi, Gideon, Hay (2), Parkin (2), Paul, Toy, Watts. Emergency: Miss Mitchell. BOXER’S DEATH. (Received This Day, 11 a.m.) LONDON, June 23. At flic inquest oil Louis Hood a verdict; was returned that death was due to misadventure. At the National Sporting Club last week, Hie feather-weight, Charlie llardcastle, knocked out Louis Hood with two rights on the jaw in the 14tli round, and Hood died at the club early in the morning.
