WAIPUKURAU ITEMS.

Literary and Debating Society. (Own Correspondent.) The annual general mooting of the Waipukurau Literary and Debating Society was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, on Thursday evening, Mr Venables presiding. The report and balance sheet wns read and adopted. In moving the adoption, the chairman said it was a matter for congratulation that the society was in such a sound position. They had concluded a very successful season and were commencing the present one with a substantial credit balance and a total membership now of about sixty. The election of office bearers resulted as follows :—President, Rev J. Pattison ; vice-presidents, Messrs W. A. Chambers, P. 8. Carroll and J. L. Merton ; secretary, Mr E. A. Goodger; treasurer, Mr G. V. Westbrooke; committee, Messrs Merton, Chambers and Rev J. Pattison, with secretary and treasurer. Four new members wart elected. The following resolution was carried : —That a deputation representing the Waipukurau Literary and Debating Society approach the Town Board at their next monthly meeting, with a view of obtaining the use of the Public Library for the society’s meetings. Tho annual Haivest Home, one of the most popular events of tho Hatuma f Settlement and which is always looked i forward to with much interest by the r settlers and the residents all around the i district, took place in the granary, at t Hatuma, yesterday. There was a large attendance at the ppaning ceremony which Mr J. Williamson conducted. The fxhibits were well arranged throughout the building, tho collection of the various entries being numerous and of a 4 high quality. Mr E.
