Land Board
[Own Correspondent.] Napier, Yesterday The monthly meeting of the Land Board -was held this morniug. Present:—Messrs H. Trent (Chief Commissioner), T. E. Hyde, R. R. Groom and E. Lane. CORRESPONDENCE. Margaret Milne, lessee of section 2, block 2, Poureroro settlement, applied to surrender her loaso.—To be informed that there was no power to recommend a surrender. O. M. Stevenson applied for a miscellaneous lease of sootion 6, block 13, Hatuma settlement.—Granted at a rental of £1 15s per annum. The Proabytorian Church managers at Waipukurau applied for a church site at Hatuma settlement.—Managers to be asked to select a e ito. GENERAL. Letters having reference to the miscellaneous leases over the Piri Piri block wore received from the followingG. A. Gummas aud Co., Sainsbury, Logan, and Williams (on behalf of Mrs Matthews), Williams Bros., and W. Murray. —Loft in tho hands of the Commissioner to dual with.
Tho Commissioner stated that a number of settlers in tho Taraaki block had applied for assistance owing to the dam ago oausod by tho recent fires. They did not ask for seed but for some compensation for the loss of a season, destruction of fences, oto. Ranger Martin Smith had visited the block and in his report suggested that several settlers should be allowed two years’ occupation without payment of rent. —Ranger’s report to be forwarded to the Minister for favorable consideration.
