PONY CLUB

HOLIDAY EVENTS EXAMINATION RESULTS The Cambridge Pony Club organised two very successful picnics for its members during the school holidays. Inclement weather conditions unfortunately were responsible for the cancelling of two fixtures, but the first picnic which was held at Fencourt and the other one on Thursday last at Karapiro,. were attended by many enthusiastic young riders, followers and parents. A tribute must be paid to the many workers whose assistance in the running of the picnics, and providing sheltered green fields, gave both riders and spectators such an enjoyable day. Games included such novelties as turnip spearing, relay despatch riding, polo skittles, saddling up the pony club way etc. Ponies, some well groomed, some clipped, and some with tails plaited up, and children, quite a number already wearing a black pullover, the club colour, all seemed to be having a great time. Children brought their own eats, and a hot drink was provided, and luncheon was partaken in real picnic style. It is most gratifying to notice how children, who started riding only since becoming pony club members and have been lucky enough to get their own ponies, have progressed in a short time; how the more experienced riders assist with the little ones; and that so many were able to ride and take part at thse picnics-/ Just prior to the holidays the following members were examined by Mr Ken Peake, head instructor, anygainen their “D” certificates which consist of passing a test in sa<mlingup, mounting and position in th£ saddle:' N. Cotter, S. Halford, Jill Hargraves, J. Looker, G. Macdonald, N. McMillan, A. Marshall, Ba/ry Omerod Barry Stott, 'S. Emwjyie, J. En~ twisle, V. Hartman, Ptftrica Hogan, V. Jamieson, M. Swayne, C.
