DUKE OF GLOUCESTER
PART IN THE CORONATION
For the first time for a least a century York House will play a leading part in Coronation entertaining. It was not occupied by members of the Royal Family at the coronation of 1911. At the coronation of King Edward VII. the French President stayed there. On this occasion it will be the home of the Duke of Gloucester, who now holds an important place as next in the line of succession after the King's daughters. A notable function of May will be the Duke's Coronation Eve dinner party, to be given by him in view of his position as senior Prince of the Blood Royal. The Duchess of Gloucester is keeping the Adam green tone of the suite of reception rooms at York House. These four rooms can be thrown into one, and some of the dividing doors are of mirrored glass. The walls will be cleaned, but not repainted. A keen interest has been taken by the Duchess in the re-decoration in sunny cream tones of the 20 bedrooms and sitting rooms for the household staff. The new central heating system is carried into all these rooms, which will be kept at a temperatU;e of 50 degrees. Electric fires are also being installed. Farmhouse red tiles now pave the kitchens. The Duchess wants to copy, where possible, the perfectly planned kitchen at Marlborough House, evolved bv Queen Mary.
