INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL
PROPOSAL FOR CAMBRIDGE
DISTRICT MEETING ARRANGE!*
The establishment of an intermediate school in Cambridge was discussed at the biennial meeting? of householders of the Cambridge District High School last Wednesday, The Chairman, Mr S. N. Ziraan, stated that the question had been referred to by the old committee and it was felt that such a school wottfd" improve the educational standard of the district. The matter had to he explored to the full, and a meeting of all school committees and masters in the district will be held on June 4 to discuss this important step in the district's education. The chairman of the Auckland Education Board had been invited to attend the meeting. The Mayor, Mr C. H, Priestley, had shown a great interest in the proposals, and would also attend.
Mr Ziman explained that if the intermediate school was established the two top standards of all primary schools would be combined to become Form I and Form II of a large high school. Mr Macky said a certain amount of consolidation would result if the school was formed. It would be cheaper for the board to bring: all the children of some districts in to Cambridge than to maintain a school for the lower classes. Difficulties would be presented in that teachers did not like decapitated schools where it was hard to ke?p up the grade. " Mr Macky agreed that this district is suitable for the establishment of an intermediate school. It necessary, however, to get together members of the various district school committees and create enthusiasm. Much work would be entailed by the Cambridge committee if the scheme was to go through. Ke hoped to see the day when the school would be established.
In conclusion Mr Ziman said he had intended combining the annual meeting of the dental clinic eom~ mittce, which comprised the chairmen ofyall school committees, wftb » preliminary discussion on the subject.
