HAUTAPU CEMETERY
BAD STATE OF GROUNDS
BESOLUTION OF EX-SERVICE-MEN
The untidy state of the Cambridge Cemetery was the subject of a discussion at the annual meeting of the Cambridge Branch of the Ex-Ser-vicemen's Association on Saturday afternoon."
Mr S. N. Ziman stated that a working bee had been held at the cemetery that morning to clean up the graves of returned soldiers, and it was the general opinion of those present that the cemetery was far from being a credit to Cambridge.
Mr Ziman moved a resolution that the association draws the attention of the Cambridge Borough Council and the Waikato County Council to the condition of the Hautapu Cemetery, and requests those bodies to take steps to have the cemetery kept in a state which will make it a fitting resting-place for deceased | residents of the district.
In seconding the motion, which was carried unanimously, Mr F. H. Anderson stated that he had passed the cemetery daily for many years but saw little work done to the grounds. It was not the fault of the sexton, he said. Mr Anderson suggested that as the Borough Jubilee is approaching, the council may carry out some scheme of improvement. Soldiers' Graves
Several years ago a committee was formed by the Ex-Servicemen's Association for the purpose of caring for the graves of fallen comrades. Excellent work has been done each year on the morning of Anzac Day.
Mr J. Holmes has made himself responsible for those who lie in the Leamington Cemetery and Mr S. N. Ziman has arranged a working bee each year for the Hautapu Cemetery.
