MATCH FOR CAMERON CUP CAMBRIDGE BEAT TE AWAMUTU BY 7—l The A team of the Cambridge Polo Club journeyed to Te Awamutu on Saturday to play the local team for the Cameron Cup. The teams were as follows: Te Awamutu: No 1, Alan Kay; No 2, Len. Kay; No 3, Lyell Kay; No 4, Dick Kay. Cambridge: No 1, R. Nolan; No 2, C. G. Yosper; No 3, Rob. Peake; No 4, Ken Peake. The game was played on Mr Alan Kay’s property at Parawera, before an interested audience of Te Awamutu and Cambridge enthusiasts. The first two chukkas were of a sticky nature, neither side hitting well. In the third chukka, Cambridge played with better combination, the result being two goals. The fourth chukka produced some desperate riding-off, hard galloping and long shots, and ended with one goal each. In the remaining chukka Cambridge gained the ascendancy scoring two goals in the fifth, one in the sixth and one in the final, making the final score 7 goals to 1, in favour of Cambridge. At the afternoon tea session, Mr William Kay, one of the original fiayers in the Auckland Province, in a few appropriate remarks, presented the Cup to the Cambridge captain,. Mr C. G. Yosper, who suitably replied. Mr W. A. Fisher, president of the Cambridge Club, expressed the appreciation of the visitors for the kind hospitality of the local club, voicing the hope that the Kay Brothers would soon enter a challenge for the lost cup. Mr Norman Banks, of Cambridge, who acted as umpire, expressed his appreciation of the clean galloping game he had controlled, only two breaches of the rules having occurred throughout the whole seven chukkas. f a New Playing Area. The playing area has; recently been levelled and put down in grass by Mr Alan Kay. Saturday’s game was the first contest to be played on the new ground, and were many remarks of a ■> complimentary nature passed on the excellent turf. The ponies appreciated the good holding and the players found that the ball travelled true and fast.
