DAIRYING YEAS

INCEEASED PBODUCTION SEASON OPENS FAVOURABLY The new dairying season has opened favourably in New Zealand, the first month showing a small increase on the output of August, 1933. Gradings of butter for export during the five weeks ended September 1 totalled 6487 tons, compared with 6462 tons in the corresponding period last year. Cheese gradings • for the period were 712 tons, against 691 tons. The increase in butter gradings' is about -} per cent, and in cheese about 3 per cent.

The Aveather for the opening of the current season was favourable in most dairying districts and herds came into production in good condition. On the whole, there was ample feed for the winter months and pastures now arc satisfactory. Probably about the same number of cows are being milked as in the previous year. Recently, thero have been cold snaps in some districts and these unfavourable conditions may be reflected in the September returns.
