CLATJDELANUS INVADES CAMBRIDGE. IH3COBD INTER-CLUB MATCH. purely there can be bo more striking sample oc the growing interest ana i» bowling in the South Aaejwuid Centre than the visit oi the jvcord number of 17 rinks from the Claudelands Club on Saturday afternoon bust. Such a remarkable visit not only shows the great growth of bowling an Ju»u parts ox late years, but it goes further and typifies the spirit and ' ideals of this ancient pustimc-that oi Certainly the latter Ispoct of the game of bowls was m evidence on Saturday. The visitors, figuratively speaking, invaded Cambridge in three large Blue buses. On the way over—and no doubt the same procedure was adopted on the return trip—the visitors indulged in community singing and individual items interspersed with much joking and fun that .once again proved the truth of the saying that men are still only boys at heart. As the 70 odd bowlers marched into the Domain and down to the greens they were greeted with lusty cheers from the local fraternity and soon there >vas a chorus of "good-days*' and "welcomes," heart >' hand-clasps and the renewing/of many acquaintanceships of long standing. It was indeed, a happy scene and one that made one icalise that the game of bowls is worth much more than for the game itself. In extending the heartiest of welcomes to the visitors the local president, Mr Edgar James, said they were .literally overwhelmed by a visit in such large numbers. As far as could be ascertained it was a record visit and a -record inter-club match in the South Auckland Centre. The apparent enthusism indicated the progress made <of late by the Claudelands Club and ithen again such a visit demonstrated -'the growing friendliness between the two clubs. Cambridge had always a warm spot for Claudelands and apparently it was reciprocated. He assured the Claudelands members that 'the local lowlcrs regarded their visit, in- such numbers a decided compliment to tjw -club, which would not soon be forgotten- He trusted that the good relations between Claudelands and Cambridge would long continue. Mr W. Fraser, president, returned sincere thanks for the welcome, and at the close of the day's play, for the "hospitality extended. Mr Fraser said they "had brought practically the whole •club with them—their veterans, seniors, ■juniors and first year teams, and their songsters and choir, and even the Mayor of Hamilton. (Applause). It lad boon a great day for, the members wf his club and he hoped they had lieen the means of promoting still further the growth and spirit of the game in Cambridge, as they were doing in their own club. (Applause).

Reciprocal cheers then brought to a close all too soon a memorable day. 'The match resulted in a win for CamIbrldge by 101 games (354 points) to 6* games '(292 points).
