THE GOODWILL SPIRIT

A GRACIOUS ACTION. BY A LOCAL RESIDENT. In these times of depression, :uid of fiercer competition along most of the daily walks of life, there is unfortunately a greater tendency to study self. It is even noticeable during the festive season, when the majority of us do relax a little and allow our thoughts to turn towards others, though, generally speaking, it is to those most dear to us. It is therefore most refreshing to hear of incidents demonstrating the goodwill spirit in its most gracious form. Only this morning we were given a fine example showing that deep down in the hearts of those from whom, we would least expect it, the spirit of goodwill towards our fellowmen is still present. We are informed by Mr T. F. Richards, that yesterday a local resident walked into his shop, and handing him the sum of £5, requested that Ave parcels of groceries and Christmas tit-bits, each to the value of £l, be sent to five families in' Cambridge, whose circumstances are low, but who are honest and thrifty, and deserving of the enjoyment of a little Christmas cheer. "When I am enjoying my Christmas, I want to feel that I have helped at least a few of my fellow citizens to feel happier at this joyous period of the year," said the local resident, as he prepared 'to leave the store. Needless to say the person responsible for this gracious action desires to remain anonymous. Although M> Richards would certainly not seek publicity, we know that the parcels that are being sent to the five deserving families, are each surprising value for £l.
