FAREWELL

TO MB AND MKS GUTRY. TENNIS AFTERNOON. (Own Correspondent). On gjaturday afternoon a farewell tennis afternoon was held at Roto-o-rangi school for the headmaster, Mr, Geo. Gutry, who is leaving here to take a now position at a school at Oncwhero, near Tuakau. At the gathering the district was well represented, there being about 60 people present. The three tennis courts, always an attraction, were continually full, and several good sets were played off. On behalf of the Tennis Club and district residents, Mr A. R. Cox, president of the club, made a speech, during the course of which he remarked that Mr Gutry had been of great assistance to the club in getting the tennis courts p.t the school. . They were sorry to lose a popular headmaster. At the conclusion of his remarks, Mr Cox presented Mr Gutry with a handsome cheque as a mark of appreciation of his services. The headmaster, returning thanks, said he would always have the interests of the club at heart; also he was sorry to leave the pupils, to whom he was greatly attached. However, he was moving along to an upward grade and must go forward. In the new district ho would also be close to some members of his family, so he was happy in that connection.

Three hearty cheers were then given for Mr and Mrs Gutry, and .all sang "For They Are Jolly Good Fellows.''

' Later in the afternoon afternoon tea was served and much appreciation, while a gramophone with all the latest records, kindly lent for the occasion, provided music for the afternoon which passed off very successfully, and (concluded by all joining hands and singing "Auld Lang Syne."
