BUILDING PROGRESS
MESSRS EASTER AND WAGHORNE’S PREMISES.
Of the five tenders received for the erection of Messrs E. J. Easter and C. Waghornc’s premises in Victoria Street, that of the only local firm, Messrs Speight, Pearce, Nicoll, Davys, Ltd., was accepted, and the contractors have made a start with the work. The two shops are being erected upon' the site of Mr Easter’s original premises, and will be constructed of brick and concrete. Mr Easter’s shop will have a depth of 74ft. and frontage of 17ft 4in., while Mr Waghorne’s premises will have a frontage of lift 6ins and will be 63ft in depth. The entire design of the premises has utility as its chief seharactistie, though the frontage is pleasing and when the shops are completed they will be a distinct asset to this portion of the business area, and to the main street as a whole. Mr Easter’s frontage will comprise two large recess display windows, the depth of the recess being lift, the entrance to the shop proper being tlir- . o'ugh double swing doors. The of the shop will be 34ft and at the rear will be a large and up-to-date workroom. Mr Waghome’s shop will have a single recess window for the display of goods, and a showcase window on the opposite side, running back about Bft. The frontage as a whole is of pleasing appearance with three sft transoms and an ornamental parapet, with relief ornamentation. Progress is now being made with the foundations, and it is expected that the premises will be completed in about three months. .
