LATE SUMMER
IDEAL WEATHEK. WARM DAYS/ COOL NIGHTS. As compensation for the lack of summery weather before the New Year, the weather during the past couple of months has been excellent, and so far March has been remarkable for exceedingly enjoyable weather—bright, warm days, and cool nights—and very little rain.
The past three days have been as warm as midsummer; indeed these have been among the hottest days of the whole summer. The maximum temperature, as registered at the local climatic station, has been: Monday, 76 degrees; Tuesday, 77 degrees; Wednesday 77.6 degrees. The nights have been distinctly cool, with a feeling of autumn in the air. The minimum screen temperature during the past three days has been: 47 deg., 45.2 deg,, and 47.2 deg. respectively, while the grass thermometer has shown: 43.4 deg., 43 deg., and 45 deg. for the same days. No frosts have been recorded as yet, at Cambridge, but on one morning, March 12th, the thermometer stood at 34.6 deg., which is very little above the figures for frost. The spell of good weather appears to have been fairly general throughout the Dominion, though in Dunedin last week the conditions were rather unpleasant, with rain, and cold days.
