MAGISTRATE’S COURT

MONTHLY SITTING. A LIGHT CALENDAK. Tlic monthly sitting of the local Magistrate’s Court was held at the Courthouse this morning, before Mr F. W. Platts, S.M. Associated on the BOnch was Mr H. Alan 8011, J.P. Prohibition Breach. John Wiley Burns was before thoCourt on a breach of his prohibition order. Constable Jones stated that on 6th March he saw Burns at the Cambridge Show very much under the influence of liquor. It was 'his first breach. Convicted and fined 40/- and costs 11/-. Maintenance Arrears. Donald Mackay, of Putaruru, appeared before the Court, charged by Rose Harriett Mackay, of Cambridge, with arrears of a maintenance order of 10/per week in respect of his four children, totalling £l2; also solicitors’ expenses, £2 2/-. Mackay was represented by Mr D. J. London, who stated that his client had paid £5 2/- off the arrears since proceedings had been taken. Mackay was earning 15/- a day, but he had much broken time. It was not a case of wilful default, but inability to pay. Mr Garrard for complainant said it was observed that Mackay could afford to go to Ngaruawahia to the regatta. He would be prepared that the case be suspended for a month provided the arrears were paid up. Mackay was convicted and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment in default, the order to be suspended subject to the payment of £8 on the 20th of next month, and the regular payment of £2 a month in accordance with the order, plus 5/- a week off the balance of arrears. Wicks, claim £l2 19/8, costs £2 15/-; J. Jackson v. W. Chubb, claim £5 10/6, costs £1 10/6; W. Souter and Co. v. P. Brady, claim £3 18/10, costs £1 6/6; G. E. Clark and Sons v. D. Williamson, claim £7 14/4, costs £1 12/6; G. E. 'i?'Clark and Sons v. Ben Penetito, claim £lB 7/10, costs £3 3/-. Judgment Summons. Brook Wells sued T. Wilson, of Maungatautari, for £l7 2/6. Adjourned to next monthly Court for debtor to produce a statement of earnings and expenditure.
