A resident of Port Albert, Kaipara, Mr. Thomas Inger, celebrated his 99th birthday yesterday. He has lived at Port Albert since his arrival in Ncav Zealand in 1862. The retiring Governor-General of New Zealand, Sir Charles Fcrgusson, took luncheon with Their Majesties at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday last.— London cablegram. Mrs Ellis, travelling secretary for Barnardo's Homes Young Helpers' League for the North Island, has been in Cambridge for the past few days, the guest of Mrs A. Gane (local secreetaiy of the league). Mr F. W. Luxford, of Hamilton, returned by the Tofua on Tuesday last, after a visit to the Pacific Islands. He visited Samoa, where he was the guest of his brother, Mr J. H. Luxford, Chief Judge of Western' Samoa. Miss Jennie Street, field secretary of the National Christian Endeavour Union of Great Britain, who has been touring New Zealand for the past 12 months, was tendered a farewell at Auckland last night. She leaves tomorrow to conduct a campaign in Australia. i The following teaching appointments were authorised by the Auckland Education Board yesterday:—Head teachers: Mr P. J. Sefton, Cambridge; Mr G. A. Gutry, Oncwhcro; Mr H, S. Redwood, Roto-o-rangi.
