DAIRYING

IN CAMBRIDGE DISTRICT. FEBRUARY RETURNS. With excellent climatic conditions and' s consequently feed a-plenty, the present dailying season, so far as this district is concerned, has been a record one. It has been a period of production not previously eclipsed in the last couple of decades, and it will be appreciated that during those years remarkable progress, has been made. It will be seen from the undermentioned returns that the statement made is no idle boast, and in the course of a remarkable season for dairying production, the month of February is among the outstanding periods of the season. Had prices been in sympathy with the increased production it would have, indeed, been a wonderfully successful year for dairy farmers. The Cambridge Company. On the 20th inst., the Cambridge Cooperative Dairy Company, Ltd., will advance to suppliers the sum of the payout being on the basis of 1/4 per lb butterfat for cheese and 1/1£ " for butter, as against 1/5J and 1/4| respectively for the corresponding period of last year, when the total advance for February was £22,455. The respective advances are in favour of this season to the amount of £3740, a striking example of the record production this year. This is well borne out by the company’s advice that the production for February shows an increase of 30 per cent over February last year. For the present season to February 28 the company has advanced to suppliers the huge sum of £214,550 against £201,040 for a similar period of last year. The Bruntwood Company. Production is just as pronounced with the Bruntwood Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd. For February the suppliers sent in 50,0591bs of fat against 40,3981bs for' February, 1929. The basis of payment for February is 1/4 per lb butterfat for cheese, which is the same as last year, but on the 20th the company will advance the sum of £3470 against £2686 for February last ypar. ' A fufther example of the remarkable increase in production this season is the fact that up to the end of February the company had received 401,9601bs fat as compared with 367,7341bs of fat for tho-corresponding period of last soason, an increase of 34,2261b5. .
