CAMBRIDGE’S FUTURE
MR VEALE’S OPTIMISM.
SURE TO COME INTO ITS OWN,
In the course of his remarks at the Cambridge Town Hall yesterday, when replying to a presentation made to him, Mr E. Yealc made some interesting remarks regarding the future of 'Cambridge, about which some people were getting rather pessimistic. He thought they had every right to look to the future with every confidence. The time was coming when the whole of the district between Cambridge and Hamilton would be cut up into five, ten and 20acre small holdings, which would give a great impetus to the place. Then too, when the present railway was scrapped, Cambridge would come into its own. There was nothing to prevent it. Ultimately the shortest route from Hamilton to Rotorua, via Cambridge and Tirau, would surely become the main route for tourists and others, saving nearly thirty miles from the present circuitous route, and that would be another factor that would help Cambridge.
Cambridge, said Mr Veale, had many advantages, and the residents had no reason for pessimism as to the future.
