CAMBRIDGE DOMAIN BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY. NOT NOW REQUIRED. A little over a year ago the Cambridge Domain Beautifying Society was formed, the object: being to raise funds to assist with the beautifying of the local Domain or Park. At that time the Domain Board was badly in need of money, and it w r as felt that the new organisation might do a good deal towards assisting the board. When first formed a goodly number of members were enrolled, but since then little has been done, the public showing but little interest in the movement.
Yesterday afternoon a meeting of subscribers to the society was held, when there were only three .persons present: Messrs J. C. Sawers (chairman), S. R. James and Frank Penn.
An apology for non-attendance was received from Mr Edwin James, who suggested that the society cease operations, as the Domain Board now had means of securing funds for new works.
After a brief discussion it was resolved that, in view of the fact that the Domain Board was now on a more satisfactory footing, and was able to raise funds for progressive works, and also seeing that little public interest had been shown in the society, it be disbanded.
It was further resolved that the funds in hand, after meeting a small outstanding liability, be handed ove% to the Domain Board.
Before closing, the meeting passed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Sawers for his 'work as chairman and hon. secretary of the society.
Some months ago the society handed the sum of £2O to the Domain Board towards the improvement of the children ’s playground at the Domain. It was stated at yesterday’s meeting that, after meeting liabilities, there would be about £7 to hand to the board.
