MUSIC HATH CHARMS!

(To the Editor)

Sir, —I think everyone can shower bouquets on the president, secretary and .executive committee of the W.C.A.A. o n the way they ran such an excellent show, but I sincerely hope that another year, they will relegate to the back part of the course, or the hollow in the centre of tho course with its natural amphitheatre—hnd let us pray a strong westerly breeze blowing too—the children’s dancing class and that horrible out-of-tune bagpipe, which played one tunc (?) for over three hours in the most prominent part. of the course. It was obviously only pleasing to a few parents and friends of the children performers, but unfortunately had the desired effect of clearing the grandstand and making people who came to see the show stand along the rails to view the jumping contests and Mr Hargreaves’ “circus.” Furthermore, it was hardly fair to the Cambridge Municipal Band to have this disconcerting noise in conflict -with the good music as played by them.

I know Mr President to be a keen lover of an agricultural show. Can he tell me w-hy other lovers of the same thing, and they arc many, should be forced to listen to the most awful cat.-a-walling noise, and look at halffledged children bobbing up and down, which has .nothing whatever to do with a show, and can only be classed a sideshow, and as such should take its place amongst them. I hope for the good of the 99 per cent of your patrons you will rectify this matter, and so save hundrerds of people from those internal pains they are to-day suffering from.—l am, etc., “A SHOW LOVER.” Cambridge, March 7, 1930.
