Headmaster’s Report. The headmaster’s report showed that the total roll of the primary department was 417, and the secondary department 97. The school could only remain Grade GA with, the present number. During the month the board’s architect, Mr Miller, visited the school, and there had been pointed out to him the unnecessary damage done to the building and school apparatus by painters. The architect agreed that n statement of the losses entailed should be forwarded to him, and a deduction would be made from the contract price. Mr Dixon, agricultural supervisor, visited the school and reported favourably on the school gardens. Miss More Martin, physical instructress, also visited the school. The secondary grounds had been cleaned up, but the long grass was still a trouble. The headmaster reported on general maintenance and other minor matters. Ho suggested that a large summoning bell be supplied to the secondary department. Football Ground. The chairman reporting in connection with improvements to the secondary -school football ground, said arrangements had been made to have the long grass cut. The matter of ploughing was being considered.. Ho thought that when the ground was prepared a cricket pitch could be made on the football ground, and would do.service for some time. The chairman further stated that it was intended to go ahead and lay the ground down permanently. He thought that by expediting the work it would not unduly intervero with the season for the boys. The committee’s report was approved. Staff Appointments. The secretary, Education Board, advised the appointment of Misses V. M. Trice and Evelyn Wood, as probationers, also Miss Renee Capper as relieving assistant during Mr Jenkin’s absence in camp. The board further advised that applications were being advertised for an appointment as headmaster, in place of Mr Lewis, on account of his promotion to the office of inspector. Miss I. V. Jenkins had been appointed assistant until Miss Wilton’s position is filled. The secretary advised that applications had been invited for the position of first lady assistant in the secondary department. The qualifications had to include ability to teach advanced French.

Miss E. I. Wilton, who recently left the school to take up an appointment at Geraldine, wrote thanking the committee for the good wishes extended.

The chairman intimated that Miss Wilton had presented a banner for the secondary department, as reported in a recent issue.

It was decided to heartily thank Miss Wilton for her thoughtfufticss, and the provision of a suitable case for the banner was left in the hands of the chairman.
