Evening Train to Auckland.

The Te Aroha Chamber of Commerce wrote stating that that body was urging the Railways Department to establish an evening train service from South Auckland to Auckland. It suggested that.the present slow trains from Thames, Rotorua, To Kuiti and Cambridge be speeded up in order that a train leave Frankton at about 7.30 p.m. and run a, quick service to Auckland each night. The writers asked Cambridge's co-operation in this proposal. Members considered the proposal a good one, and decided to support same. It. was pointed out that if the 6 p.m. train from Cambridge to Frankton could bo reliod upon to reach its destination at 7.15 p.m., it would be a very useful train, more particularly if passengers could go straight on to Aiiekland. v Membership. The secretary pointed out that the Chamber had a membership of 31, but some of these had not yet paid their subscription fees. He urged that steps be takon to increase the membership and collect the fees. It was decided to make a formal roquest that this suggestion be carried out. Cottage Hospital Project. Mr G. H. Bellamy introduced the subject of a cottage hospital for Cambridge, saying there was urgent need for such an institution. After discussion the matter was referred to a sub-committee, comprising Messrs Priestley, Bellamy a«d Calvert. Railway Matters. The president reported that, as a result of representations made by the Chamber, the Railway Department had moved the, railway crossing opposite the Anglican Church. The alteration was a great improvement, and rendered this crossing much safer. The president suggestod that the Chamber thank the Department for its attention matter, and remind them the promised extension of the goods shed had not yet been carried out.—Agreed to. v Private Hotel Wanted. The urgent need of a well-equipped modern private hotel in Cambridge, and its advantages to the town were briefly to\ichod upon.
