(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION) Received October 16, 9.37 a.m. Hongkong, October 15. The steamer burnt at Hongkong was the Hankow, not the Canton, as previously reported. She had 2000 Chinese and seven European passengers aboard. The cargo consisted of matting and raw silk. The vessel had just berthed, and in a few minutes was ablaze fore and aft. It was impossible to get the hose to work, as the fire flouts were damaged in the recent cyclone.

GERMANS SNUBBED. New York, October 15. The German manufacturers, who visited the United States, seeking specially for favourable administration of the Customs law for German goods, were bluntly informed that threats of a tariff war would not have any influence upon American officials. THE CADETS IN THE COLONIES. London, October 15. Lord Methuen, addressing the Dover College Cadets, pointedly referred to the wonderful growth of the cadet movement in the colonies, especially in New Zealand. RESIGNATION OF PRINCE HOHENLOHE.
