EASTER CARNIVAL AT HAMILTON

A well-attended meeting of the ! committee arranging for the above was held last evening. Mr E. H. Northcroft was in the chair. Jn opening the proceedings, the chairman stated that the calling of the committee together had perhaps been delayed a little too long, but the executive had felt that it would bo better to push the thing through quickly, and not let matters drag. With regard to the ground, he under- J stood that a portion of the Claude- j lands grounds had been ploughed up, ! and it would be for the committee to decide whether there would be a sufficiently large area available for the purposes of the carnival.- After a little discussion, it was decided to adhere to the executive's decision and hold the carnival at Claudelands. The chairman also stated that the Polo Club would be holding a tournament on the grounds at Easter. He thought if they could come to some arrangement with the Polo Club the tournament would prove a great attraction to the carnival.—This view foam! general endorsement, and Mr Northcroft was authorised to arrange the matter with the I'olo Club. The chairman reported that Mr Tombs had promised to assist the committee by donating a proportion of three entertainments to the funds. —Mr Tombs was heartily thanked for his generosity. The following committees were set Advertising: Messrs Paul and Auld. Ground: Messrs Daniell and A. J, Smith. Train: Chairman and secretary. Finance: Messrs English, Mason, and the chairman. Ait union: Messrs Brown, Vail and Veats. Military: Captains King and Gar--1 land and Lieut. Ranstead. Tea kiosks: Mesdames F. B. Jolly, Mitchell, Anderson and Atkin. Stalls: Mesdames Greenslade, Bennett, and Miss Wallnutt. Children's dances: Mrs Whitehorn and Misses E. Roche and Scholield. Ground Entertainment: Messrs Geo. Bond, Tombs, Chapman, Newton, Geary, Harrison, Robeits and Birch. Sports: Messrs Price, Hammond, Hawke, Speight, Cowley and H. J. Cooper. Procession: Messrs Wilson, Whitaker, Veats and Armstrong. Chiidrin'B sports: Mr Sergei. Baby Show and Creche: Mesdames Allen Bell and A. 11. Hyde. Band: Mr Brown. It was decided that the Maypole dance should be given on the lawn in front of the grandstand. The children's committee was requested io endeavour to arrange for exhibitions by boy scouts. It was agreed that the judging in the baby show should be by popular vote. A large number of attractive suggestions were made to the several committees which are to meet forthwith, and arrange details, /-s soon as this has been done, the schedules will be printed, it being agreed that these should be issued to the public free of cost. Messrs McCrea and Higginson were appointed to arrange for a post office on the ground. It was reported that the art union, tickets for which will be issued as soon as the permit comes to hand,

would not be drawn until the end of May.
