SOUTH AUCKLAND RACING CLUB

A meeting of the executive com- ' mittee of the above club was held in i the Hospital Board Room last night. Mr J. Dalgliesh presided, and there were a good representation of members. New Members. Messrs J. A. Hair, G. K. Wylie, i VV. J. Garland anil T. M. Peters, ! were elected new members. Balance Sheet. The secretary presented an interim | balance-sheet which showed receipts i amounting ta £4504 Ts 9d, of which '£Bo Ms 7d was carried forward from last year; £2759 -Is 6d from the totalisator, £596 Is (id gate, ! nominations and acceptances £322 lOs, members fees £l2l 13s, jockey \ fees £325 10s, cards £165 9s 2d, ; booth, etc., £llO 10s. The expenses included £1260 in stakes, £3lO 7s refund jockey fees, rent £SO, cards £67 19s 2d, totalisator £344 17s 6d, , Government tax £709 19s 3d, wages i £133, leaving a credit balance of '£1478 10s 3d. The secretary stated that the liaj bilities of the club included an ! amount of about £7UO, which was owing to the A. and P. Association ; for a half share of the improvements j that had been effected lately. Of 1 this amount £3OO was due almost at | once. It was decided on the motion of Mr A. J. Storey to pay the whole account, providing the amount did not exceed £7OO. The Track A discussion arose as to what , should be done with the remaining balance, and Mr Cork expressed the opinion that the track was the first thing that should receive attention. He considered that the track should be ploughed up and put thoroughly in order. He also suggested an alteration in the straight, which he thought [ should be made longer.

They proposed to topdress, harrow and manure the whole, and put drain pipes at intervals in the gul<y. It was finally decided to leave the matter in the hands of the ground committee. Polo Club .Sports. Mr J. B. Hooper asked if there was any communication from the Polo Club regarding an application for the use of the track for their sports in connection with the Easter Polo Tournament. The secretary reported that no application had so far been received. Mr Goodwin considered that the ground committeee should have a say in the matter, as they were responsible for the track. Jt was eventually resolved to leave it in the hands of the ground committee to arrange v, ith the Polo Club, the fee being fixed at £lO. Further Required Improvements. Mr Goodwin brought under notice the big crush that took place at the gates in front of the totalisator leading from the inside to the outside, and this should be altered. A committee was Bet up consisting of the secretary and ground committee to meet the A. and V. Association on the ground to fix up necessary improvements. New Implements. The ground committee were authorised to purchase necessary implements to use on the grounds. Secretary's Bonus. The chairman, Mr Ualgliesh, brought up the question of giving the secretary a donation for tho work he had done. In doing so the speaker stated that the work had increased enormously and entailed a good deal of additional expense. Mr Conradi had the affairs of the Club at heart and he had racing matters at his linger tips. He proposed that the Club should give him a bonus of £3O. Other mcmbeis spoke of the good work done by the secretary, and on the motion being put it was carried unanimously. Mr Conradi thanked the committee for the confidence in a few well chosen words.
