POLO AT CAMBRIDGE.

Saturday was the opening day of the Cambridge Polo Club, and although the weather was wet a number of the fair sex journeyed out to Bardowie to witness the sport. Amongst those present in buggies we noticed Mesdamcs Roberts, Macky, Richardson, Murdoch, Martyn and Hine; Misses Banks, Taylor (2), Wells (2), Hally, also a party from Wainoni, in addition to the gentlemen The contestants were as follows : Messrs Buckland, Potts, Gibbous and Craven versus Messrs Banks, Richardson, Power, and Russell. Dr. Roberts kindly officiated as referee, and he soon demonstrated that he understood the game, and further that he would have it played correctly, for he frequently called the players to order. One and all speak in the high test terms of his refereeing and trust they o..*y often induce him to take the onerous duties. The ground was very slipvery, but at times the game was fast, especially when it was taken into consideration that both men and ponies have had a lone spell during the winter. Mr Banks' side won by seven to nil, but Mr Ruckland's team met with very hard luck. Mr Power came to grass, but no damage was dono either to steed or rider. . This Club does, not intend to hide its light under a bushel, for we learn a challenge will be sent to the Auckland Club, and when the Australians arrive in Auckland they will he invited to come to Waikato and have a game.
