WAINGARO

Football Match. On Saturday, 6th inst., a.football match between the Waingaro and Eata teams was played in a paddock ot Mr S. Picken's in front of his house, and from his verandah a good number of lady spectators watched the game, sheltered from the rain which fell heavily. There were only 13 players on eacli side. The game was won by Rata, who scored eleven points (three tries and a goal), against six points (two tries) scored by Waingaro. Rata's team were T. C. Wilson (Capt.). A. Wilson, H. Wilson, J. Cogswell, R. S. McDonald, C. E. Mc Donald, T. Edwards, J. Worsop, W. Home, C. Dawson, Jj. Allen, E. A. Goodwin and F. E. Basley. Waingaro was represented by H. Bull (Capt), F. Bull, G. Bull, 11. Ellsood, A. Upton, B. Hewett, G. A. McMillan, H. Brewer, T. Thwaites, C. Eyre, G. Rutter, A. 1). Shilson and A. E. Cogswell. Mr A. Tapp, from Te Akau. ■ held the whistle, and his decisious satisfied both sides. In the first spelj J. Cogswell and T. Wilson scored tries for Rata, T. Wilson adding a goal from his own, aud the other was uot converted. In the second spell L. Allen scored a try for the same 3ide. H. Bull and H. Brewer each scored a try for Waingaro, neither of which were converted.' The ball was wet and greasy, and passing was difficult. Scrums were the order of the day, and they were usually carried by Rata, the backs not having much to do,, but when needed, F. E. Basley for Rata, and H. Ellgood, for Waingaro, the respective full backs, were up to time. Farmers' Clob. —The question is under consideration, and it is likely that a branch of the Waikato Farmers' Club may be established here. There is indication of an awakening on the part of the sleeping giant, viz., the fanning community throughout Rew Zealand, who have for such a long time borne the burdens which arc now being heaped on them in an intolerable manner by Trades Unions and other combinations. The changes are now being rung on woolpacks by adding 2d each to the cost. It if! high time the farmer look some steps to protect himself from the systematic spoliation to which he has been so long subject. Union and co-operation are certain to remove numerous evils from which he at present suffers, and at each year's end he will bcablo to congratulate liimsulf ou his increased purchasing power or a larger balance ou the credit side of hio ledger. PcbTAUli Stamps.— The Liberal party appear to be particularly stinay in the matter of gum on the stamps issued. Numbers of them persistently refuse to adhere to any paper ou which they may be placed. Is it done so that double postage may be obtained ? The same complaint was made some time since, but it needs to be repeated.—(Own Correspondent).
