Business Changes.—Mr W. J. Smith, of the Harbour View Hotel, has disposed of the lease to Mr W. B. Baker, the latter taking possession on the 10th of this month. Mr Smith has been landlord of the above hotel for some years, and both he and Mrs Smith will be much missed by a large circle of friends and by those staying from time to time at this well-known hostelry. Mutual I'mproykment Society.—A meeting of this society was held in the schoolroom on Wednesday evening last, Mr A. L. Pegler (President) in the chair Considerable' discussiou took place in reference to the magazines to be taken during the following year. It was decided to circulate the following among the members of the society, viz. : Windsor, Pearson's, Cassell's, Chambers', Ladies' Home Journal, Farmer, Coruhill, and Review of Reviews. At the conclusion of the business a most pleasing function took place, viz., the presentation of a purse of sovereigns to Mr Roffey, hon. secretary of the' society. The contents had been subscribed in the district bv Mr Roffey's numerous friends as a mark of appreciation of his many good qualities and his active services in church and social matters during his many years' residence among them. The President, on behalf of the subscribers, made the presentation. Messrs Henry, Hill, La Trobe, and ethers also gave cheir testimouy of their appreciation of Mr Roffey's many good qualities, and of his efforts as hon. secretary of the Society, aud they all wished that he may be successful and prosperous in his new home. Mr Roffey most feelingly responded. He thanked all for their kind testimonial aud for the expression of good will. Mr Roffey intended to have left Raglan for Tauranga, where he is going to settle, by the steamer this week, but will not get away until next week, the steamer having been detained by rough weather.—(Own Correspondent.)
