WESLEYAN CHURCH.

HAMILTON. The quarterly meeting of the Hamilton circuit cf the Wesleyan Church was held on Wednesday afternoon. There was a good attendance of members. The Rev. H. L. Blamires occupied the chair. The balance-sheet for the quarter, which sliowed the income to have been £64 14s 5d and expenditure £b'4 5s 4d, was adopted. Mr J. Worsley was elected assistant circuit steward vice Mr Jas. Bennett, who has left the district.—The Chairman wel corned the new steward, who returned thanks for the confidence placed in him. Mrs J. M. Jones was elected poor steward. The superintendent of the Sundayschool reported that there were 78 pupils on the roll, with au average attendance of 60, and 12 teachers with an average attendance of 10. Mr S. S. Cook, of Huntly, applied to be received as a candidate for the ministry.—Mr Cook underwent a viva voce examination, aud his candidature was sustained by the meeting. It was resolved that during the present quarter collections should be taken up for the Mission Fund. The Rev. H. L. Blamires was invited to remain in the circuit for another year. —ln returning thanks the rev. gentleman said he accepted the invitation with pleasure. The more he knew of the people the better he liked them, and not to have been invited to stay would have i;>een a severe sting to him. Messrs Hunt, Cook and Hobbs were appointed substitute stewards to attend the district synod in the _ event of the circuit stewards not being able to attend.

The Secretary reported that £6O had been provided towards the Church Centenary Fund. It was suggested that Mr W. S. Allen be invited to hold anniversary services at Ngaruawahia during the quarter. Thanks were accorded to Mr W. Allen unrl the Rev. Messrs Gittos and Blamires for special services reudered to the circuit. CAMBRIDGE. The quarterly meeting of the Cambridge Circuit of the Wesleyan Church was'held in the school adjoining the Church last eveniup. There was a fair attendance, the Rev. J. S. Gibson being in the Chair. The Rev. Mr McFarlane, a candidate for the ministry, who is stationed at Te Awamutu, which is a part of this Circuit, was also present. Mr McFarlane's duties will not be confined to the district surrounding Te Awamutu, but will extend a long way up into the King Country, where he will find a large field for his labours. Owing to the absence of some of the officers from the out-districts full information for making up the financial statement was not forthcoming, so the matter of the balance sheet was adjourned for a few days; however, we may say that the finances are in a healthy state, and notwithstanding the very wet Sundays of the last few weeks the offerings have been well up to the mark and have maintained their usual standard. This was the meeting at which it is customary to invite the clergyman to remain for another twelve months, if that is the wish of the members. We need hardly say that Mr Gibsou received such an invitation, for he and his good wife have made themselves extremely popular, and we are pleased to know that he accepted it. In the evening the usual social gathering of the members of the church was held, and a very pleasant meeting it proyed. The Pastor occupied the chair, and the Rev. fl. L. Blamires, of Hamilton, was also present. The proceedings commenced with the singing of a hymn and prayer, after which the Chairman gave a short pithy address. The choir then sang the weilknownglee, " Come o'er the Moonlit Sea" very pleasingly, and Mr Balmires followed with a song that also greatly pleased.. He possesses a fine bass voice. Mr Mc.Farlane then gave an address, and Miss Olive Cargo played a violin solo very nicely The concluding items were a speech by Mr Blamires and a song, "Ora Pro Nobis," by Miss McNeish, both of them being much appreciaeed. The usual vote of thanks to all who had contributed to the success of the gathering terminated the proceedings. Refreshments galore were provided by the ladies of the congregation, that department being under the management of Mrs Thos. Nixon, so it is needless to say that it was a success.
