WAINGARO.

Peace Celebrations.—ln anticipation of peace being proclaimed by Lord Roberts in South Africi, several of the settlers have been purchasing the flag " which has braved a thousand years the battle and the breeze," and erecting flagstaffs on which to let it float, and among them Mr S. L. Wilson, of the Hot Springs Hotel, has the smartest, just in front of the house facing the road from Ngaruawahia. In common with the rest of the Empire, we intend holding sports for old and young aud hoisting our flags in commemoration of that much-desired event, which wc hope may be soon. Pisciculture. —Some time since Mr S. I. Wilson got some two thousand rainbow trout ova, and it is pleasing to relate that the hatching process was most successful, and vigourous young iish about an iuch long were liberated in the Waingaro stream, so that it ought to bo well stocked with tish in a few years. The greatest enemy to them is the shag, and it is needless to say that settlers shoot all they can. Rifle Match. —The third rifle match between settlers and bushfellers took place at a range on Mr S. Pickeu's estate on Saturday 29th September, during which a strong gale from the south-west prevented some finding the target at the longest range. The ranges were 200, 400 and 500yds, five shots at each range. As some of the bushfellers did not put in an appearance, Messrs Thos. Wilson and C. K. McDonald fired in their stead. The match was won by tho settlers by a majority of Hi points. The following are the individual and collective scores ; Settlers.
