THE NATION’S HEALTH.
LEAD EXPECTED FROM KING EDWARD. IN SPEECH FROM THRONE. COMPREHENSIVE POLICY. (Received 11.55 p.m.) LONDON, October 7. The “Daily Mail’s” political correspondent says it is understood that the King’s first Speech from the Throne at the State opening of parliament on November 3 will announce the Government’s plan for a nation-wide drive to make Britons fit and health-conscious, in which the King is taking personal interest. Schemes already being considered include gymnasiums in every town in the country, additional swimming pools, more open spaces and sports fields and also an intensive propaganda campaign to educate the nation in the necessity of a higher standard of physical fitness. One of the first measures will be designed for the welfare and physical care of children after leaving school.
