■ SENTENCE ON AMERICAN " KIDNAPPERS. . i ST. PAUL, July 27. Alvin Karpis, who, when arrested, was America’s public enemy No. 1, and his confederate, Charles Fitzgerald were sentenced to life imprisonment. In pronouncing his verdict the Judge said: "Kidnapping is one crime the American-people will not tolerate.” (A New Orleans cable on May 1 stated that Alvin Karpis, for whom the Department of Justice had searched for three years, was captured by a equad of _"G” men. Karpis was wanted on charges of kidnapping William Hamm and E. G. Bremer. pis later pleaded guilty to conspiracy in connection with the Hamm kidnapping.)
