WOMEN’S INSTITUTES.

DOMINION CONFERENCE OPENING TO-DAY AT DUNEDIN. BIG INFLUX OF VISITORS. DUNEDIN, July 28. Neariy 500 delegates will attend the conference of Women’s Institutes of the Dominion which will be officially opened by the of Education (the Hon. P. Fraser) to-morrow morning. The delegates will represent the .majority of the 890 Institutes in New Zealand, which have a membership of 40,000. As there will be 600 visitors to the conference apart from delegates the attendance at most of the sessions will be over 1000. Approximately 450 of the visitors arrived by special train From the north this afternoon. The .delegates, whose deliberations will extend over three days, were informally welcomed in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall to-night Iby the Otago federations. Following the official opening to-morrow morning the conference will continue with routine business and in the evening a reception will be tendered by the Mayor. Most of the remits will deal with questions concerned with the administration of institutes and will be considered in private but in the later stage resolutions urging Government action on matters of health and other questions of public interest will be considered. In the absence of the president, Mrs H. Paterson, of Pahiatua, who is abroad, Mrs W. Deans (North Canterbury) and Miss A. Kane (Wellington) will act as chairwomen.—(P.A.)
