ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.

AUSTRALIA v. WAIRARAPA TO-MORROW. CIVIC WELCOME ON ARRIVAL. The visiting Australian Association football team, which is to play Wairarapa to-morrow at the Memorial Park, Masterton, will be accorded a civic reception at noon by the Mayor, Mr. T. Jordan, in the Council Chamber, Municipal Buildings. The public of Masterton and district is cordially invited to attend. The team will be entertained at dinner at the Midland and will leave later on the return journey to Wellington.

So much has been heard of the victorious tour of the Australians that all followers of the game are keenly looking forward to the match to-mor-row. Not the most optimistic of local supporters anticipate a win for Wairarapa but players of the calibre of Smith, Cameron, Evans, McNab and their team-mates can be relied upon to give an enlightened display. The local representatives will be well advised to keep in close contact with the men they are supposed to be watching. Another detail they should attend to in view of the likely weather conditions is their boots. It will need long studs in good order to enable players to keep their feet to-morrow.

Following is the Wai rarape. team:— Goalkeeper, F. Pool; full-backs, Bell, Barrett; halves, Ward, McKenzie, Wishart; forwards, Longworth, Parker, R. 801 l (captain), Allan and J. Bell. Reserves: C. Russell, R. Pawson. The referee will be Mr. N. Heyes and the linesmen Messrs J. Watson and J. W. Lewis.

The curtain-raiser which is timed to start at 1.15, will be between plkyers from the local third divirion teams. The third division teams for to-mor-row are:— A team (red and white): —Goalkeeper, Dixon (captain); full-backs, Donnelly, Fergusson; half-backs, McHattie, Tooby, O’Brien; forwards, Tooby, Lamach, Orsborn, Searanche, J. Allen. B team (blue and white): —Goalkeeper, C. Armitage; full-backs, Hamson, Corlett; half-backs, C. Hodgetts, J. Brett, H. Campbell (captain); forwards, L. King, F. Needham, A. Campbell, J. Moss, T. Brady. The referee will be Mr. J. Watson and the linesmen Messrs A. Cretney and A. Longworth. The first of a series of trial games to select the Wairarapa Primary Schools’ representatives was played on Saturday last when several hoys showed up prominently, Williams, Roche, Kilmlnster, Pinfold, Thornb’’l and Broughton being outstanding.
