Although the weather was very cold, the president, Mrs. P. Welch, presided over a record number of members at the June meeting of the Upper Plain Women’s Institute. A much-appreci-ated and interesting demonstration of "tatting” was ably given by Mrs. R. O. Jarrett, of Kopuaranga. The winners of the competition were: Pastry, Mrs. Condon 1. "Something new from something old,” Mrs. Tankersley 1, Mrs. Condon 2. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs. W. Taplin and Miss McKenzie. The singing of the National Anthem brought a very enjoyable meeting to a close.
