MASTERTON CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING. SHORT HEAD & YARD EVENT. The short head and yard event was decided yesterday at the Masterton Collie Club’s annual trials, which are being held on Mr. George Shaw’s property, Te Ore Ore. There was a large attendance of spectators, who showed considerable interest in the proceedings. The conditions were again good. Open and maiden contests were run in conjunction, there being 26 entries in the former and 21 in the maiden. The trials will be concluded to-day with the huntaway event. Following are yesterday’s results :—
Short head and yard (open): M. J. Wilton's Lad, 574 pts., 1; T. Harvey’s Gyp, 52 pts., 2; M. J. Wilton’s Chiel, 514 pts., 3; W. G. Lang’s Silver Ring, 48 pts., 4. Maiden (in conjunction): C. J. McDonald's Help, 30 pts., 1; W. Ussher’s Wag, 29J pts., 2; W. G. Lang’s Silver Ring, 27 pts., 3. Commenting on yesterday’s work, the judge, Mr. J. Blair, said the standard on the average was not what it should be in a district like this, where there were so many stations and shepherds. The winning dog in the open section was a very consistent, steady worker and handled the sheep very confidently and firmly right through.
