WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
MEETING AT GLADSTONE. The Gladstone Women’s Institute held its May meeting in the Gladstone Hall last week, when Mrs. Joblin presided over an attendance of about 40 members. Mrs 8. _ Smith, delegate to the annual council meeting of the Bush-Wairarapa Federation, presented her report. She made special reference to the influence of Institutes in working for peace. It was decided to use the Brayer for Peace at future meetings. A competition for scones was won by Miss M. Bubb, Miss J. Bubb being second, and Mrs. Hart third. Mrs. Booth judged the competition and after referring to the high standard shown gave some useful hints in connection with cooking. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames P. Cooper, Cowan, Hiata, 'Wyeth and Misses Kerr and Smith.
Mrs. Ogilvie gave an instructive demonstration of bandaging. During the meeting reference was made to the departure of Miss Mitchell who had been a very active member of the institute. It was decided to send her a small present.
