BOXING.

CONTESTS IN AUCKLAND'. AUCKLAND, May 18. In a professional catch weight contest between Cyril Pluto, of Australia, and Fred Fisher, of England, Pluto gained the decision on points at the end of twelve three-minute rounds. The Australian had the better of the first three rounds but the next few were even and then Fisher came strongly over the later stages. He knocked his opponent down for a count of five in the last round and had him out on his feet when the final gong went. The decision met with a mixed reception.

A second professional bout was staged between two middleweights, Jim Broadfoot, of Auckland, and Marine Ryan, of H.M.S. Dunedin, the latter scoring a comfortable win on points at the conclusion of five three-minute rounds.—(P.A.)
