COURSING.
SUCCESSFUL WAIRARAPA MEETING.
JENSEN CUP WON BY SWEET
SHAMROCK.
The Wairarapa Coursing Club held a most successful meeting during the week-end at its enclosure at Akura. The very large attendance was evidence of the interest being taken in coursing this season and those present were treated to some first-class sport. Th Jensen Cup for the maiden event was won by Mr. D. Grimwood’s Sweet Shamrock, while two dogs entered’ by Messrs Archer Bros, divided honours in the open stake for the Bradbury trophy. Visiting owners from Hawke’s Bay were very pleased with the control of the meeting and an endeavour is to be made by them to hold a special contest between eight dogs from Wairarapa and eight from Hawke’s Bay. Afternoon tea was provided by a ladies 1 committee and the meeting proved most enjoyable. The results were as follow:—
Jensen Cup, maiden event.—First round; S. May's Duke beat N. J. Hill’s Two notes, 8/2s; D. Grimwood’s Sweet Shamrock beat W. L. Jensen's Silver de Ore, 5/4; Archer Bros.’ Better Days beat L. Jones’s Gay Laddie, 3|/2|; H. Berney’s Blue Cobra beat L. Fulton’s Little Wonder, 2/0. Second round: Sweet Shamrock beat Duke 4/3J; Better Days beat Blue Cobra, 4|/3. Final, Sweet Shamrock beat Better Days, 3/2. Bradbury trophy, open stake.—First round: Archer Bros.’ Slippery beat L. Jones’s Silver Veil, 4j/2i; Archer Bros.’ Watcher beat P. According to the rules of coursing two dogs entered by the one owner cannot contest a final and therefore Slippery and Watcher divided the stake.
Mr. T. V. Caverhill capably carried out the duties of judge.
