POWER CHARGES.

FURTHER REDUCTIONS LIKELY. SURVEY BY CHAIRMAN. ‘‘Judging by the position of the accounts to-day, it is quite reasonable to assume that next financial year the board will be able to make further reductions in charges,” said Mr. A. Campbell Pearce, chairman of the Wairarapa Power Board at yesterday’s meeting of the board. “The matter will not, of course, be definitely decided until the annual meeting in May, bnt it is only fair to the board that we should give some indication now of what we expect to be able to do. It appears almost certain that the board will be able to make a further reduction of Jd per unit for lighting and' id per unit for ordinary heating. This will result in a reduction of revenueamounting to £2,300 and will make the net charges:—Domestic light, sid per unit; ordinary heating, 2Jd per unit; commercial light, first 100 units, s)d per unit; all over 100 units, 4|d per unit. Since 1931 the reductions already amount to £12,984. The above reductions will increase this amount to £15,284. It is also anticipated that if next season the conditions in the dairy industry are no better than they are to-day, it will be possible to continue for another season, the very low rate of 2d per unit net for dairy motors.”
