ROTARY CLUB.

AdSDRESS BY" MR. 0. M. BOWDEN. Attendance at vhe weekly luncheon of the Masterton Rotary Club yesterday was somewhat reduced on account of a number of members being away attending the conference at New Plymouth. The speaker of the day was Mr. C. M. Bowden, and his address, the. last he is to deliver before setting out. on a trip overseas, was most interesting. Taking as his subject- “Meanderings, ” Mr. Bowden went back in theworld's history for some- thirty years and “meandered” through to the present day, touching as he went on such topics as trade unionism, Socialism,, surgery, radio, machinery and a number of others. Never in any other period in the world’s history had such extraordinary developments taken place, said Mr. Bowden. And where, he asked, were we heading, and what was to come next!' What was to be the outcome of the unrest abroad in the world to-day, the so-called overproduetion, vicious suspicion one of another, and many other problems the solution of which was baffling the best brains in the world to-day. Mr. Bowden said he was unhesitatingly of opinion that the ultimate solution of the problems confronting the world lay in getting back to the fundamental principles of Christianity. Mr. Bowden was accorded a very cordial vote of trtanks for hie address on the motion of tR; Rev. E, J. Rich, who said he entirely agreed that the cause of our troubles to-day was that we had lost our grip on Christianity. Unless we got back to a realisation of that fact society was doomed. A visitor to the luncheon was Mr. T. McCracken. Birthday greetings were extended to Mr. P. W. Jackson. The chair was token by Mr. H. M. Peacock, who offered Mr. and Mrs. Bowden the beat wishes of the club for a pleasant and beneficial holiday and a safe return.
