THE “MESSIAH.”

PROPOSED PRODUCTIO BY CHORAL SOCIETY,

INVITATION TO VOCALISTS.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —The Masterton Choral Society is anxious to put on a performance of “The Messiah” at the end-of November, as was done last year. This will not bo possible unless the, full strength of the choir is available, with a considerable increase in the numbers of tenors and basses. The committee has accordingly decided to invite all singers, who would like to take part in the production of “The Messiah,” to assist the society for that purpose. No financial obligation whatever is entailed; all that is asked is that the persons coming to the- society’s assistance should attend ten- or a dozen rehearsals on Monday evenings, and sing at the concert. The- greatest need is of tenors and basses, and it is hoped that twenty or thirty men will be able to find the time to take part. It was generally admitted;. B think, that last year’s performance reached a high standard. Miss Phyllis Liddell, whose singing of the soprano solos at the last concert gave so much pleasure, has notified the society that she is prepared to come tp Masterton again this year. A meeting of the society to discuss the practicability of performing *‘The Messiah’’” this year is being held on Monday evening next, at 7.45 o 'clock, in the Methodist Schoolroom, Lincoln Road. May I appeal to all music lovers who desire to see Handel’s oratorio produced again this year, to attend that meeting? Unless sufficient support is forthcoming the project will have to be abandoned. It is greatly to be hoped that a musical endeavour of this nature will not fail just on account of apathy and lack of interest.—Yours, etc.,

C. C. MARSACK, Chairman of Committee. Masterton, August 25.
