LABOUR DEPARTMENT.
MR. J. R. HANLON TRANSFERRED
TO GISBORNE. Mr. J. R. Hanlon, who has been Inspector of Factories and Officer in Charge of the Labour Department in this district for the past seven years, has been transferred on promotion to Gisborne, where also he will be Officer in Charge and Inspector of Factories. Before coming to Masterton, Mr. Hanlon served for three years as an Inspector of Factories attached to the Wellington District Office of the Labour Department. He will be leaving Masterton on Monday next, and takes over his new post in Gisborne on December 29. During his stay in Masterton, Mr. Hanlon has carried out heavy, varied and exacting duties in a manner that has won him both respect and regard from all with whom he has come into contact. An extremely keen and zealous officer, he has shown at all times so much good feeling and common sense as to make a host of friends and few, if any enemies. Apart from the ordinary duties of his office, which cover a wide range, Mr. Hanlon has done an immense amount of good work in association with the Local Unemployment Committee and as the departmental officer in charge of the administration of unemployment relief in this district. Apprenticeship affairs, also, have often claimed a great deal of his time and energy. All who have had to do with Mr. Hanlon admire and respect him as a highly efficient and well-informed official, possessed of very fine personal qualities. In his move to Gisborne, he will carry with him the hearty good wishes of many friends—employers, employees, and other sections of the community. Mr. Hanlon is to be succeeded as Officer in Charge in Masterton by Mr. R. J. Weir, who has had over ten years’ experience on the staff of the Wellington District Office, having served both in the clerical branch and as an Inspector of Factories.
