OPPRESSIVE HEAT.
UNPLEASANT CONDITIONS IN SYDNEY. HOTTEST NIGHT FOR YEARS. (Received Tuesday, 11.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, November 4. Sydney citizens have sweltered for the past twenty-four hours. Last night was the hottest in sixteen years, the temperature at ten o’clock being 81 degrees. Again this morning, experiencing a fierce sun and hot wind, the temperature at nine o ’clock was 89 degreesand remained in the eighties all day High temperatures and blinding dust were experienced in South Australia and A ictona yesterday, with storms at rngnt. The atmosphere'was heavily charged with dust, which spoiled clothing and did considerable damage to property. 6
