CHARITY BALL.

LAST NIGHT’S EUNCTION. A GREAT SUCCESS. TLc third annual Charity Bail, which was held in the Municipal Halt last night, was a great success and as a result the St. Vincent de Paul Society should receive a fairly considerable sum for the relief of necessitous cases and for other good work which it achieves. There was an attendance of about 350 and visitors were present from all parts of the Wairarapa and even as far away as Hastings and Wellington. Among the apologies for absence was one from the Mayor of Masterton, Mr. T. Jordan. A band of willing helpers went to considerable trouble in arranging the decorations of the large hall and the aupper room, which bore a most artistic appearance and presented a gay and picturesque scene. Minifie *3 Orchestra played excellent dance music and under the efficient direction of five M.’a C., Messrs J. Hunter, J. Bradbury, T. CorkiH, T. Wickens and J. Jameson, the proceedings were kept moving merrily. Highly appreciated extras were supplied by the W.F.C.A. Orchestra. Very complete suppefr arrangements were made under the direction of Miss Diggins, lady secretary, whose, work in this direction is deserving of the highest praise. A large-and energetic band of lady helpers gave her every assistance in carrying out her big task. The chaperones were Mesdames A. R. Bunny, C. H. Hanley, J. H. Percy, J. C. Cooper, C. N. Stillburn, J. T. Jameson and Miss Spellman. The general arrangements for a function of -this kind entail much- detail work on the part of the joint secretaries and the organisers of last night’s function were fortunate that such work was in the capable hands of Messrs. R. H. Hanley and A. E. O’Leary, who carried out their multi farious duties most efficiently, The work of thn secretaries was ably supported by the enthusiasm of a largo committee and. the promoters have every reason to be gratified at the success which was attained for so worthy an object.
