FOREST LOSS AND DAMAGE IN AMERICA. WIDESPREAD HAVOC IN FIVE STATES. THOUSANDS OF MEN FIGHTING THE’ FLAMES. (Received Thursday, 7.50 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 7. Damage amounting to millions of dollars and the destruction of hundreds of thousands of acres of valuable forest in five States has occurred as a result of fires due to an unprecedented drought. Oklahoma, California. Washington, Montana and Idaho are the heaviest sufferers, with many fires reported in timber areas within their boundaries. Thousands of men are fighting the fires continuously.
