A DIFFICULT STAGE.
HOP FROM KARACHI TO BAGDAD. AIRMEN EXPECT TO REACH LONDON TO-MORROW. (Received Wednesdav, 10.5 a.m.) CALCUTTA, July 3. Before the departure at 5 a.m., for Karachi, Ulm declared that when they reached Karachi it would be necessary to check over the engines and for all of them to have some rest before beginning the hop to Bagdad, which is likely to be one of the most difficult stages of the flight. "We would like to make a non-stop flight from Bagdad to London,” he said, "but each day, as our information concerning the route is added to, we find that there is less hope of accomplishing it. Owing to the prevailing winds and to the heavy load the 'plane is carrying, it would be impossible to rise to the altitude necessary to negotiate mountains." They are planning to fly from Bagdad to Rome, then to London, which they should reach on Friday, easily breaking the record.—(Australian Press Association.) LANDING AT ALLAHABAD. (Received This Day, 1.8 a.m.) ALLAHABAD, July 3. The Southern Cross landed at Allahabad at 12.15 o’clock with magneto trouble. It will possibly be leaving for Karachi to-night. — (Australian Press Association.)
